Blockchain is becoming increasingly prominent in our lives – if you don’t know already about it, you can read my post “how blockchain will spark a digital marketing revolution”. There are plenty of predictions on the future of Blockchain, discussing how the technology will change the health system forever, how blockchain will affect online advertising and how blockchain will change everything from entertainment to smart contracts. There needs to be more of a focus on the end-user when it comes to blockchain, and how it can be integrated into their daily lives in a way that decreases costs, or makes their lives easier. Read it in Italian.

For example Singapore Power, the national body for energy and gas in Singapore, has started using blockchain to help their customers save money while also allowing the company to use more renewable energy. According to Singapore Power, using Blockchain cuts costs and makes it easier to integrate renewable energy into the nation’s electricity network. The green operators, if connected by Blockchain, decrease the cost of payments and in turn increase the efficiency of alternative energies (National Energy Provider in Singapore will Use Blockchain Technology)

In Taiwan, the e-commerce company OwlTing has launched OwlChain, the first platform for food supply via Blockchain. OwlChain wants to get fresh and healthy food to farmers and retailers to sell products easily, while allowing customers to easily have access to all of the info about the supply chain and quality control. The technology permits the company to have a system of origin discovery of the food thanks to a specialised API.

Upwelling Ocean, a big supplier of eco-friendly fishing, partnered with OwlTing, to support the initiative because Blockchain is also an arm against the illegal fishing and helps to protect the marine environment permitting to share all the data with fishing companies that, in other countries, rely on productions and local distributors (The OwlChain Supports Sustainable Food Practices With The Ethereum Blockchain).

From energy to food, also the automotive is starting to use Blockchain to realize a new mobility based on auto drive. In collaboration with MIT Media Lab, the Toyota Research Institute is experimenting with a digital system that permits users-drivers and companies to share data related to direct drive and auto drive on vehicles under test, and to manage transactions related to Car Sharing systems and memorize info on the usage of the cars to define fees for insurance (Newsroom Toyota).

Blockchain sends info through an independent pc network, the Distributed Ledger Technology, without any risks of fraud or transactions cost such as per commissions and surtaxes to third parties. Thanks to big quantity of the data collected, time and costs are reduced and security and auto drive can get closer.
